Description:
A leading ensemble in the Czech early music scene, the highly acclaimed Collegium 1704 presents its Mass in B minor Collegium 1704, a Baroque ensemble based in Prague, Czech Republic, earned high praise for its recording of Zelenka’s *Requiem* (ACC24244)—Zelenka is often referred to as the “Bach of Bohemia.” This time, they have recorded Bach’s *Mass in B minor*, considered one of his greatest works. Based on modern research, it has become standard practice to perform Bach’s works using the instrumentation he actually used at the time, allowing for a smaller ensemble that brings out the individual lines of each part more clearly. In this performance as well, the choir consists of 3 sopranos I, 3 sopranos II, 5 altos, 4 tenors, and 5 basses—a total of 18 singers. There are 6 soloists, all of whom also sing in the choir. The orchestra is a small ensemble of 30 musicians. Collegium 1704, led by Václav Lux, was founded in 1991 by harpsichordist Václav Lux (born in 1970). It is a dynamic ensemble leading the rapidly evolving Czech early music scene. Every member of this ensemble possesses remarkable talent, and both the chorus and the soloists are top-notch. With their exceptional technique, beautiful sound, and dynamic performances at brisk tempos, they offer a fresh perspective on the world of Bach. King International
