Music by pilgrims and minstrels depicting scenes from an important pilgrimage in Spain. The pilgrimage to the tomb of St. James in Santiago de Compostela was one of the most important medieval pilgrimage routes, attracting numerous pilgrims from across Europe. The music of pilgrims and minstrels can be found in famous manuscripts such as the *Llibre Vermell de Montserrat*, the *Codex Calixtinus*, and the “Cancionero de Palacio.” The Freiburg-based Swiss medieval ensemble “Spileit” recreates the music of that era using instruments depicted in the illustrations of ancient manuscripts and on church portals.
