Sakari Oramo is a renowned Finnish conductor who was awarded "Conductor of the Year" by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2015. In addition to his current position as Principal Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, he is also Chief Conductor & Artistic Advisor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Chief Conductor of the Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra (Finland), and Honorary Conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His recording for Chandos of Sibelius' Lemminkainen Suite (PCHAN 20136/CHAN 20136) was named "Special Recording of the Year" in the 2019 Recording Academy Awards, enhancing Sakari Oramo's ability and Chandos' reputation for superb recordings.Based on the play "Duchess Julie" by Swedish playwright Johann August Strindberg, "Miss Julie" is an opera by William Olwyn (1905-1985), a 20th century British composer whose works have been featured on the Chandos label since its earliest days, The opera, which Olwyn himself wrote the libretto for, was composed between 1973 and 1976, and was his last major work. Sakari Oramo will perform this unknown masterpiece, which is the culmination of the compositional skills of Olwyn, who also boasted an extensive career as a film music composer, under his mature baton.
