Description:

Decca Classics Signs "Vocal Gem" and Releases Debut Album "Passione"! Decca Classics announces the signing of Freddie De Tomaso and the release of his debut album. This 27-year-old Anglo-Italian tenor is arguably the most exciting lirico spinto tenor in over a decade. From its archives, Decca has revived original arrangements made for such great tenors of yesteryear as Mario del Monaco and Luciano Pavarotti. The arrangements by Henry Mancini, Mantovani, and Giancarlo Chiaramello, which have not been heard in decades, have been painstakingly reconstructed from the original scores and parts, and in addition to these are songs arranged by Roberto Negri for Giuseppe di Stefano. This album is also notable for the world premiere recordings of three songs. The year 2021 is the centennial year of the four great tenors. is the "Year of the Tenor", in which four famous tenors will celebrate their centennial anniversaries. Mario Lanza's 100th birthday (January 31), Franco Corelli's 100th birthday (April 8), Giuseppe di Stefano's 100th birthday (July 24), and the 100th anniversary of the death of Enrico Caruso, the father of all modern tenors (August 2. De Tomaso's album celebrates the songs made famous by these predecessors and explores the musical background of his own father's family from the southernmost part of Italy (Casamassima, near Bari, Puglia, once part of the Kingdom of Naples). De Tomaso said, "I am very honored to join the distinguished tenor lineup of Decca Classics. I am humbled and excited to be recognized by Decca.I look forward to an exciting collaboration in the future. The songs on my debut album are all very important to me and pay tribute to my heritage and the people I admire. I hope to share my passion for them with as many people as possible. Dominique Fife, label director of Decca Classics, said, "There is nothing more exciting than signing a new tenor. Freddie De Tomaso's voice has already generated excitement across Europe. Decca is a label like no other with unparalleled tenors such as Del Monaco, Bergonzi, Di Stefano, Pavarotti, and Kaleya. We are very happy to welcome Freddie to this wonderful lineup. It is rare to find a true spinto tenor today, but Fredi, at 27 years old, has already achieved success and acclaim," he added.(1/2) Universal Music/IMS
