Jonas Kaufmann's latest and much-anticipated 2017 album is a collection of brilliant arias from 19th century French opera, from Allevi's The Jewess in 1835, Berlioz's The Trojans in 1858, Berlioz's Carmen (1875), two Bizet masterpieces, The Pearl Harvester (1863) and Gounod's Romeo and Juliet" and then Massenet's 1892 masterpiece "Werther," the selection includes 11 arias and three duets from 12 operas and one vocal work that are literally the essence of French opera. French opera is a repertoire near and dear to my heart," said Kaufman. These works reflect the atmosphere of an extremely unique period in the history of European culture. This album not only features some of the highlights of this era, but also some works that have been important in my career to date.Wilhelm Meister in "Mignon" was the first French opera I sang (Opera de Toulouse, 2001), and my success with "Carmen" and "Werther" has greatly expanded my career as a singer. The very first time I sang "Werther" was at the Paris Opera - it was a risky experiment to be the only German in a French ensemble, but my colleagues, the conductor, and above all, the famous French tenor, But I was given great strength by my colleagues, the conductor, and most of all by the recordings of the famous French tenor Georges Till," he confesses that he is literally crazy about French opera. The fact that his Decca debut recording "Romantic Arias" (2008) also includes arias from French opera shows his affinity for this repertoire from the very beginning of his career.(1/2) Sony Music
