Description:
Celebrate the new year with the Vienna Philharmonic's magnificent waltz and polka. The classical concert of the century, which reaches 400 million people in 80 countries around the world, will be performed by master musician Mariss Jansons in NYC for the third time since 2012. The Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert is held every year on January 1. The concert, which began in 1939 and has a history of more than 75 years, features the iconic Viennese family waltzes and polk waltzes, which have become a symbol of Vienna as a city of music, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Concert. In 2016, Latvian master Mariss Jansons (b. 1943) will make an appearance. This will be his third New Year's Concert after a four-year absence. He is one of the most important conductors of the Vienna Philharmonic and is a regular guest at subscription concerts, music festivals, and overseas tours. Although he has retired from the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he is still very popular as the principal conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, a German orchestra. The program will include such standard works as "The Blue Danube" and "The Racoczi March," as well as works that will appear for the first time in the history of the New Year's Concert. The vivid video and audio will give the audience the luxury of enjoying a live musical feast in the golden halls of the Vienna Musikverein, which are beautifully decorated with many flowers. Mariss Jansons was born in Riga, Latvia in 1943.His father was the master conductor Arvid Jansons. He studied violin, piano, and conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory, with Swarovski in Vienna and Karajan in Salzburg, and in 1971 received the Karajan Foundation Conducting Award and became assistant conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. He has served as principal conductor and music director of the Oslo Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He is currently Principal Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Sony Music
