Rare 1992 CD reissue of Canadian Power Poppers' 1992 album (cassette was released in 1990)! ! In 1989, recording of what would become VALENTINO'S PIRATES began at Daniel Lanois' Grant Avenue Studios under producer Gary "Pig" Gold. Shortly thereafter, DAVE RAVE left the Canadian proto-punk poppers TEENAGE HEAD and moved to New York City with GARY. There they completed the album and formed a band called THE DAVE RAVE CONSPIRACY with BILLY FICCA and LAUREN AGNELLI of TELEVISION, and began playing the songs live. Initially, VALENTINO'S PIRATES was released exclusively on cassette tape on the MOLE SOUND label in Canada.Eventually, however, through a connection with the mysterious Rudolf Solovyov (owner of KISMET in New York), Dave Rave became the first Western artist to be signed directly to the Russian label MELODIYA, and due to timing constraints, the group was reduced to 10 songs, and furthermore, in order to accommodate the wary Soviet The Dave Rave Conspiracy was renamed the Dave Rave Group to better suit the sensibilities of the wary Soviet Union, and the album was finally released in the Soviet Union in early 1992. This disc is released as a 13-track album and a 22-track "NAKED PIRATES" luxury 2-CD set that includes demos, separate mixes, and previously unreleased tracks.
