Description:
Heinz Stanske is a relatively unknown figure even among violin enthusiasts. A student of Maxim Jacobsen at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, he began his career in 1932 as concertmaster of the UFA Tonefilm Orchestra, where he contributed to musical and spectacular films for the next decade. He won a gold medal and made his official debut the following year at the Beethoven Saal in Berlin, which led to widespread critical recognition, and the conductor Carl Schuricht hailed him as the most outstanding German violinist of his generation. Among the highlights of Stanske's early career were the German premiere of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Staatskapelle Dresden under Karl Böhm in 1940, the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Schuricht conducting), Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (also conducted by Böhm).During World War II, she also gave concerts in Spain and Italy, but her marriage to a Jewish violinist placed her in a precarious position under Nazi racial policies. This marriage excluded her from German radio broadcasting, and this restriction lasted until the end of World War II. After the war, Stanske resumed her career and in 1950 was appointed by Hans Rosbout as the first concertmaster in charge of special soloists for the Southwest Broadcasting Orchestra of Baden-Baden, a position she held until her retirement in 1971. This album consists of previously unreleased broadcast recordings and is intended to showcase the breadth of his repertoire and promote a deeper understanding of his artistic legacy. Tobu Shoji Co.
