Richard Strauss and Lully! Two great composers, each a "townsman aristocrat"! The Oslo-based project orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017. Iona Brown, Leif Ove Ansnes, Isabelle van Keulen, and Mattin Frost serve as music directors and guest concertmasters, and Terje Tonnesen, founding artistic director and artistic director of Camerata Nordica, leads the orchestra as of 2017! The orchestra is led as of 2017 by Terje Tonnesen. Two pieces of music for Molière's play The Townsman Aristocrat (Le bourgeois gentihomme). Jean-Baptiste Lully's work was composed for its premiere at the court of Louis XIV. It contains eight pieces excerpted from the complete work.Richard Strauss's "Aristocrat" Suite is a concert version of nine pieces selected from incidental music composed by Hofmannsthal for his adaptation and performance of Molière's play. Lully's Minuet" and "The Appearance of Cleonte" are arrangements of Lully's music. Tokyo M-Plus
