A live album of previously unreleased material from the Christian McBride Group is now available on CD and LP!Since 2009, this modern-day groove master has been the resident gig at the New York Jazz Hall of Fame's Village Vanguard for two weeks to close out the year, Christian McBride (b), whose 2015 release of the trio's six-day live album led by Christian won a Grammy Award. Now the full story of the quintet's (Inside Straight) performance on the last six dates of the year-end season is revealed: Inside Straight features McBride's old friends Carl Allen (ds), Eric Reed (p), and Steve Wilson (p), and the quintet's newest member, the late, great Steve Wilson (ds), Inside Straight was formed in 2007 by McBride's old friends Carl Allen (ds), Eric Reed (p), and Steve Wilson (ass,ss), with a young Warren Wolfe (vib), whom he discovered at a jazz camp that McBride ran.Inside Straight's debut, Kind of Brown, was the first album after McBride's surprise move to Mack Avenue in 2009; for their second album, 2013's People Music, the pianist was changed to Peter Martin. Inside Straight has toured extensively since then, and this album documents their return to the Village Vanguard, where they were born. The set list includes M-4, M-6, and M-7 from the first album, and M-2, M-3, and M-5 from the second album, all with scaled-up interplay, and M-1, an original by Warren Wolfe, who has become a standard-bearer of the modern jazz vibraphone, opens the show. A new masterpiece joins the lineage of "Live at the Village Vanguard" that began 64 years ago with Sonny Rollins (ts) in 1957!
