A collection of cantatas by 17th century female composer Jaquet de la Guerre with a shining sense of dramaElisabeth Jaquet de la Guerre, one of the most famous clavecin masters and female composers of 17th century France. Dacan, a French Baroque composer, was her husband's nephew, who also influenced her clavecin compositions. Jaquet de la Guerre wrote not only clavecin, but also numerous cantatas, both secular and sacred. The Ensemble Amaryllis, led by Héloïse Gaillard, beautifully recreates two Old Testament women, Judith, the embodiment of courage and virtue, and Semele, the embodiment of moderation and dignity. Jaquet de la Guerre's innate sense of drama shines through. Ensemble Amaryllis is a women's group formed in 1994. The Trio Sonata No. 4, an instrumental work, is an interesting fusion of new instrumental techniques, such as chromatic scales and bold harmonies, which show Corelli's influence, and her unique French decorative techniques.
