The new principal horn of the Berliner Philharmoniker! We are pleased to announce the debut album by Zeng Yun! On November 2, 2023, the Chinese super hornist surprised the world by announcing his appointment to the vacant principal horn position of the Berlin Philharmonic, Zeng Yun (曾韵/Yun Zheng), a Chinese super hornist who surprised the world when he was announced as the new principal hornist of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He is now leading the horn section of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra together with Stefan Dohr, who is also the principal horn player of the orchestra. Zen Yun began playing the horn at the age of six under the tutelage of his father, the principal horn player of the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, and went on to study at the Geneva Conservatory of Music in Switzerland.He then entered the graduate school of the Central Conservatory of Music in China with a recommendation, and after serving as the first chair of the China State Opera Orchestra, he was appointed as the first chair of the Staatskapelle Berlin in October 2022. A year later, he moved to the Berliner Philharmoniker to take up the position of Principal. In the meantime, he won the first prize in the newly established brass section of the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Music Competition, and in 2021, he won the second prize in the horn section of the famous and extremely difficult 70th ARD Munich International Music Competition. He has also won prizes in various other competitions, including the Prague Spring International Music Competition, and his momentum is only growing!
