New works are being created one after another in American wind music. This album features three works composed since 2010, including two world premiere recordings. Maslanka is the most prolific of all wind band composers, with approximately 150 works to date. His 2010 work "Liberation" was commissioned by the Japan Wind Ensemble Conductors' Conference, and was premiered by the brass band and choir of Hikarigaoka Girls' High School. Perrin's "In the Open Air, In the Silent Lines" is his latest work for 2018. Inspired by the preface to Whitman's poetry collection Leaves of Grass, the work has a rich sense of space. Pulitzer Prize and Grammy-nominated composer Walczyk's "Freedom from Fear" is a large-scale work in four movements depicting the tragedy of people caught up in war and conflict. The story, which uses a variety of texts including the Bible, stories of the Syrian people, and the poem "The New Colossus" by American poet Emma Lazarus, inscribed on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, was performed by the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble and others from soprano and boy soprano soloists to a jazz ensemble in a single The performance is spectacular.
