Japan's leading composer and pianist Yuji Takahashi and mezzo-soprano Mutumi Hatano, who can sing everything from ancient to contemporary works, have performed together on many occasions. This album features new works written for Mutsumi Hatano, including "Tabidachi naratara (While Traveling)," a song with three poems from Kazue Morisaki's poetry collection "Sasafue Hitori" (2004), and "Boku wa 12 sai," written in 1977, in which the poets' words transcend time and touch the heart at the present moment. Boku wa 12 sai" is a collection of songs composed by Yuji Takahashi from 11 poems in "Boku wa 12 sai," a collection of poems by Masashi Oka, who took his own life at the age of 12 in the 1970s. It is a groundbreaking collection based on Amami children's songs and Korean folk songs. Saraba Sawara-mura" is a poem by Makoto Tsuji, whose father was the wandering dadaist Jun Tsuji and whose mother was the women's liberation activist and writer Noe Ito, who herself left many paintings and anecdotes.Variation on "Farewell" from Mahler's "Ode to the Earth," composed for Mutsumi Hatano in 2010. Ivar Gurney, a composer and poet, lost his health due to poison gas he inhaled on the battlefield, and spent half his life in a hospital, where he continued to compose and write poetry. The album includes "Bach and the Sentinel," a poem about a sentinel recalling Bach's prelude on the battlefield. Mutsumi Hatano (song) made her debut with a lute song from Shakespeare's time. She continues her career with recitals of songs. As a soloist of Baroque religious works and oratorios, she has performed with many ancient music orchestras conducted by Masaaki Suzuki, Ryo Terakobe, and Yuto Suzuki. In opera, she has performed the Empress Otterwier in Monteverdi's "The Crowning of Poppea," Queen Dido in Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas," Queen Phèdre in Rameau's "Ippolito and Arisi," etc. She is highly regarded for her deep expressiveness and presence, and her CDs include "Italian Songs," performed with ancient instruments, "Platero and Me" with the guitarist Koji Ohagi, and "Platero and Me" with the guitarist Yasuji Ohagi.
