The third release of ONDINE by Nicholas Colon and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra is a collection of works by Lotta Vennakoski. The album's opener, "Flounce," was commissioned by the BBC Proms and opened the last night of 2017, the 100th anniversary of Finland's independence. Written to be "no longer than five minutes and to have a festive atmosphere," the piece, with its rhythmic sections and calm middle section, was well received by both audiences and critics alike. A substantial harp concerto, "Sigla" was written for Sivan Magen, an Israël native and principal harpist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2017. The piece makes maximum use of the harp's unique beautiful and fantastic tone, while also bringing out its sometimes rough sound, opening up new expressions for the instrument. The final piece, "Sedecim," is Latin for "16," and was commissioned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1916, and Vennakoski imagines and portrays the atmosphere of the orchestra's early days.
