Description:

Roger Norrington retired from conducting after his last performance with the Royal Northern Sinfonia in November 2021. This album features a variety of Beethoven overtures, which were his forte. Norrington recorded "Egmont," "The Creation of Prometheus," and "Coriolan" with the London Classical Players in 1987 and 1988, but this is the first appearance of three overtures related to the opera "Leonore. The overtures, which contain a great deal of concentrated drama, are performed in the "Stuttgart sound" based on non-vibrato string playing. This release is a delight for fans of Norrington's complete Beethoven symphonies. Naxos Japan
