Description:

Platti, who lived just in time to coincide with the great Bach, was born in Padua near Venice. He was fluent on the oboe, violin, and voice, and was familiar with the early fortepiano developed by Bartolomeo Cristofori. 1722 he began his career at the court of Würzburg, famous for its baroque palaces, where he spent the rest of his life as court musician and teacher. Many classical musicians love Platte's works, which are full of elements that foretold the classical era in the late baroque era, and many albums have been released so far. The most important point to listen to this new recording is that many of the works utilize the oboe, which was the composer's forte, and the bass instrument, which was the precursor of the classical piano trio. The reason for this is that the composer's brother, Count Ehrwein, was himself a cellist, and the various pieces on this disc are carefully selected from Count Ehrwein's collection of scores. The performance is by Radyo Antiqua, a group formed in The Hague in 2012 by young ancient instrumentalists from South America, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and other countries. The group's diverse instrumentation is very attractive.Following the German Baroque works at Ambronay, the ensemble's youthful dynamism and breathtaking ensemble makes this small but diverse collection of Platty's works very interesting.
