Known for his contributions to Andre 3000’s landmark album *New Blue Sun* and his work with Carlos Nino and Josh Johnson in the Openness Trio, he has also collaborated as a producer, composer, and performer on projects by Leon Bridges, Lizzo, JAY-Z, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Sade, John Legend, P!nk, and A$AP Rocky. A rare musician who has spanned the spectrum from the forefront of pop music to improvisational and experimental music—including touring the world as a member of Sheila E.’s band—he is a true polymath. Since his full-fledged solo debut album *JoyTechniques* in 2019, Mercereau has shifted his focus from session work to his own artistic expression, carrying on the legacy of jazz fusion and progressive rock while updating them into a contemporary sound.
