This is a CD+DVD (2CD+DVD) 3-CD set of live recordings of two performances by the quintet with Lyn Dobson (S.sax/t.sax/fl/harmonica/vo) that existed for only about 3 months from January to March '70, just before the recording of the masterpiece "THIRD". CD+DVD (2CD+DVD) 3CD+DVD set of sound/footage from two performances by the quintet with Elton Dean (Alto saxophone) and Harmonica/vo. The quintet consists of Elton Dean (alto sax/saxello), Robert Wyatt (drs/vo), Mike Ratledge (hohner pianet/organ), and Hugh Hopper (b), the four members from the '70 album "THIRD", plus Lynn Dobson, who also played on that album. CD1/DVD includes sound/video of the March 2, 1970 performance at Theatre De La Musique in Paris, which was broadcast on the French TV program "Pop Deux". Many items using this source/video have already been released, but this release boasts the definitive quality, with the exact song order changed and further improvements in both sound and picture quality.The opening track, "Eamonn Andrews," is a masterpiece, starting with Robert Wyatt's thunderous drumming, followed by a unique duet between the two instruments and the unique playing/sound of Hugh Hopper and Mike Ratledge, which is reminiscent of Canterbury and the floating atmosphere. The two-pipe interplay characteristic of this period, and the unique playing/sound of Hugh Hopper and Mike Ratledge, who both play and float in a manner reminiscent of Canterbury, are unique, cutting-edge performances that attempt further sublimation while moving flexibly between the boundaries of the score and improvisation. In addition, CD3 contains a live recording of a performance by the same band in Amsterdam, Holland in January 1970, which has not been officially released until now. Although this is an excerpt, it includes 'Facelift' and 'Moon In June' from "Third," and although the sound quality is inferior to the Paris performance, the performance is even more passionate and sharp. This period of the band's history was also a period of pursuit of jazz rock, which was very original in the long history of the band and the Canterbury scene, as the style of the band shifted from early psychedelic rock to free jazz/improvisation. This is a must have for all progressive rock fans! The DVD includes a bonus bonus track "The Paris Concerts of March 2", which was recorded by Ian Beabout. DVD includes a bonus full-length audience recording of the March 2 Paris show.
