This is the debut solo release from WONK’s leader and drummer, Ko Arata. For this album, he takes on vocal duties for the first time, delivering a sweet, deep voice reminiscent of Daniel Caesar and Frank Ocean to create a chilled-out ambient R&B sound that goes a step beyond current J-R&B trends. The lineup features guitarist Satoshi Inoue—who studied under Jim Hall and Ron Carter and continues to lead the jazz scene—as well as bassist Shunsuke Ochi, known for his work supporting Masaki Suda; singer kikivivilily, known for her guest appearances with artists like Taki; labelmate Kohei Ando—all artists at the peak of their careers—who solidify the backing, creating a fantastical yet grounded worldview and an authentic, ear-pleasing sound that you’ll want to listen to over and over again.
