It has been announced that odol’s sixth album, *slowblink*, which was released digitally in April of this year, will be released as a long-awaited analog record on clear vinyl. This album is enveloped in an airy, relaxed, and natural atmosphere, presenting a “new odol” that is more free and lighthearted than ever before. This atmosphere is epitomized by the opening sequence, which begins with Track 1, “Tokidoki,” featuring lively drum fills and a dazzling trumpet, and continues into Track 2, “Tsutaete!,” a danceable and melodic synth-pop track reminiscent of YMO. Track 3, “Scene,” catches the ear with its powerful, deep beat. Track 4, “Phone Call,” blends beautiful piano and violin—a hallmark of odol’s recent style—with ethereal synths and breakbeats. And then there’s Track 7, “Attracted to You,” where you’ll find yourself wanting to surrender to the minimalist piano loop and the rhythm that gently accompanies the vocals. These tracks, in which digital precision and the organic resonance of acoustic instruments blend seamlessly, offer a lighthearted glimpse into a new side of odol. The lead track, Track 8 “I’m Sorry,” unfolds from a gentle introduction into a grand scale; the ensemble of instruments and the soaring melody create an overwhelming sense of elation. Closing out the album, Track 9 “Mystery” is a song that tenderly weaves a gaze toward family. Its warm sound leaves a deep, lingering impression at the album’s conclusion, bringing the album to a close. “slowblink” refers to the gesture of a cat slowly blinking with narrowed eyes—a sign of affection and trust. The album’s laid-back, relaxed atmosphere and the lyrical worldview depicting romance and universal love— its gentle, warm mood—are what inspired the name, as they resonate with this intimate gesture.
