Fanny Azzuro Invites You Night, Dreams, and the World Beyond Hypnos, the title of this work, is the god of sleep in Greek mythology. In the world of dreams, from the threshold of sleep to the final breath hovering over the grave, Hypnos watches over us. He guides humans toward peace and remains by their side until the very end of their journey. Pianist Fanny Azzuro is releasing an album that, like Hypnos, offers a bird’s-eye view of “night” in its various forms. In the first half of this two-disc program, images of the presence of death, the sorrow of loss, and funeral processions pervade the entire work. In Robert Schumann’s compositions, nightmares, anger, and struggle reach their peak, portraying the night as a hopeless, dark world. In the second half, an inner world unfolds in which the night is embraced and a quiet reconciliation is achieved. The program concludes with Respighi’s *Nocturne*. This early work by Respighi evokes the quiet breeze sweeping through the treetops of the cypresses standing on the hills of Umbria. Born into a musical family with Italian roots and boasting a distinguished record of awards from international competitions, Fanny Azzuro performs in a way that evokes memories of landscapes bathed in warm light, while conjuring a sound rich in color. The brilliance of Romantic music and the radiance of works from the first half of the 20th century deeply enrich her current performances. As a Yamaha Artist, her musical world has been nurtured by numerous encounters. In particular, her relationship with pianist Boris Petrushansky, under whose guidance she studied for many years, has served as a cornerstone of her artistry. Furthermore, her experiences traveling to places that have stirred her soul—from Djibouti and Brazil to various parts of Asia and even Carnegie Hall in New York—have profoundly influenced her artistic vision. Fanny Azzuro is a storyteller who invites listeners on an adventure filled with rich resonance. She is active not only as a soloist but also as a chamber musician, performing in a wide variety of ensembles. She has broadened the scope of her artistry through repeated collaborations with numerous leading contemporary soloists, string quartets, string and wind instrumentalists, and percussionists. Furthermore, through the passion she cultivated with the SpiriTango Quartet, she naturally incorporates elements of jazz and tango into the world of classical music.
