Description:

The third prize winner of the 2021 Montreal International Music Competition, Dimitri Marignan, has taken on the challenge of performing an all-Bach program! Dimitri Marignan, winner of the third prize at the Montreal International Music Competition in 2021, will perform an all-Bach program! He is a young and talented pianist who has won several prizes, including the first prize at the Teruel Piano Competition (2011), the first prize at the Claude Bonneton International Piano Competition (2014), and the third prize at the Montreal International Music Competition in 2021, where he was also awarded the Audience Prize and the Bach Prize. This album takes the listener on a "pilgrimage" of Bach's keyboard works, from "On the Departure of My Beloved Brother" to the unfinished fugue, from Bach's works as a young court chamber musician in Weimar to those of his years as cantor in Leipzig. The piano is a parallel-string piano by Belgian piano maker Chris Mahne. This piano was commissioned by Daniel Barenboim in 2013, and features strings that are not crossed as on a typical grand piano, but rather all strings are stretched parallel to each other as on a harpsichord or fortepiano. This allows for greater volume, more nuanced expression, and greater playing comfort. This grand piano was unveiled in 2015 with a performance by Barenboim, and has since been recognized by world-class pianists such as Pierre-Laurent Emard and Emmanuel Ax, and recorded by Martin Helmchen with Frank Peter Zimmermann. It is also used in the recording of the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas by Martin Helmchen with Frank Peter Zimmermann. King International
