William Yong, who has opened up a new world of Schubert's sonatas, finally completes his "Schubert: Complete Sonatas for Piano" by pianist William Yong, born in Seoul in 1979. After studying in Boston for five years, he went on to study with Bernd Goecke at the Hannover School of Music and Drama. He then auditioned for and won a scholarship to the famously difficult Lake Como International Academy, where he studied from 2006 to 2009 with Andreas Steyer and Menahem Pressler. At Sony Classical, she participated in various duo and chamber music recordings as musical partner of violaist Nils Menkemeyer, and played intimately with Zabine Meyer, Julia Fischer, and Menkemeyer on the 2016 release of "Mozart with Friends, The 2017 ECHO Awards named it "Best Chamber Music Recording". As a soloist, she recorded the complete Mozart piano sonatas for the OEHMS Classic label. The first two albums of his major project of recording Schubert's complete piano sonatas for Sony Classical have received great acclaim.William Yong said of Schubert's music, "It touches you in your darkest moments, comforts and uplifts, leads the listener to waltz, to dream and wander and hope.... His piano sonatas seem to be a condensed testament to his short but incredibly rich musical life". The album includes "No. 16 in A minor, D.845," the first piano sonata published in 1826; "No. 2 in C major, D.279," in which the orchestral influence is so clearly audible that it sounds as if a string quartet is playing; the beautiful "Lerique," mistakenly believed to be Schubert's last work No. 15 in C major, D.840, which was mistakenly thought to be Schubert's last work, and the playful "No. 17 in D major, D.850," with its energetically pulsating rhythms and dramatic accents.
