Chillwave pioneers Washout is the project of Atlanta-based producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene. Purple Noon" is his fourth album and his return to SUB POP, once again written, recorded, and produced entirely by himself. The album was mixed by Ben Allen (Nalls Barclay, Animal Collective, Walk the Moon, etc.). The production of the album was followed by writing work for other artists, such as Sudan Archives, allowing Green to explore genres such as R&B and modern pop. The songs thus provided to others were brighter and richer, and elements of them were incorporated into "Purple Noon," building a new chapter for Greene as a producer/songwriter. The vocals take center stage, the tempo slows, and the beats are bolder and more inclusive in their dynamics, resulting in a work of depth. The Mediterranean coastline provided the inspiration for Purple Noon.Greene pays homage to the region's unique island culture and uses it as a backdrop for his work. The album's title comes from Rene Clement's 1960 film and is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mister Ripley. It is like a romantic Hollywood epic, adding an emotional layer to the escapism (escapism of reality) of Washout. It takes the music to new heights.
