Clemens Krauss first recorded Brahms' works for Decca in London in 1947, including "Alto Rhapsody" with Kathleen Ferrier in magnificent voice. Although Krauss did not record again until May 1954, less than seven years after his death from a heart attack a few hours after a concert in Mexico, he left behind a number of masterful recordings. He was especially good at both Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss, and here we have another symphonic poem by R. Strauss other than the "Alpine Symphony," "Salome" sung by Christel Goltz, "The Knight of Roses" with Krauss's wife, Violica Ursleak, singing the final act triplet, and the " The New Year's Concert", and he also had a close relationship with R. Strauss himself. Krauss also had a close relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and is known as the founder of the "New Year's Concert".The three Beethoven concertos with Backhaus have long been beloved by enthusiasts, and the more famous are the overture collections "Leonore" and "Fidelio," which, along with "Salome," were recorded just before his death.
