His 2014 mixtape *FACES*—which established his creative style just before he was on the verge of a major breakthrough—is being released on vinyl for the first time! Mac Miller passed away suddenly in September 2018. His far-too-early death, which came just a month after the release of his new album *SWIMMING*, sent shockwaves not only through the rap and hip-hop scenes but across the entire music industry. His final album, *CIRCLES*—which he had reportedly been working on right up until his death— and *SWIMMINGINCIRCLES*—a 4-disc vinyl box set combining *SWIMMING* with its companion album *CIRCLES*—were released last year. Now, this year, his first mixtape released through Warner Records is set to be released on vinyl. *FACES*, released on Mother’s Day in 2014, has long enjoyed cult status among his fans and hip-hop artists alike; this marks the first time it will be available on vinyl or via streaming services. As Mac Miller’s second studio album and the follow-up to the critically acclaimed *WATCHINGMOVIESWITHTHESOUNDOFF*, this mixtape represents a pinnacle of his exceptional artistry and solidified his creative style of reinventing himself with each new project. *FACES* includes “Insomniak” featuring the legendary Rick Ross, as well as “Friends” featuring ScHoolboy Q, “Polo Jeans” featuring Earl Sweatshirt, as well as “What Do You Do” featuring Sir Michael Rocks, among numerous other collaborations, and was hailed by critics and the media at the time as “the best work of his career.” To coincide with the first-ever vinyl release of *FACES*, a short film by Sam Balaban titled “Making Faces,” which captures the album’s production process, and a new music video for “San Francisco” by Ruff Mercy will be released. The short film features previously unseen interview footage of Mac Miller in Japan, making it a valuable resource for gaining a deeper understanding of him.
