Description:

Maestro Lorin Maazel died on July 13, 2014, at the age of 84. Verdi's "Requiem," which Maazel performed with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra five months before his death, is now available. Maazel, who covered a wide range of repertoire including opera, also performed Verdi works such as "Louisa Miller" (Covent Garden, DG), "La Traviata" (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Decca), "Aida" (La Scala, Milan, Decca), "Otello" (La Scala, Milan, EMI) In addition to session recordings of the complete works, he has recorded ballet music with the Cleveland Orchestra, and a live recording of "Falstaff" at the Vienna State Opera has been released on CD, but the "Requiem," one of the most famous religious works of all time, is a rare recording for Maazel, whose forte is in large-scale works. For some reason, however, he never had a chance to record it.There have been no recordings throughout the LP and CD eras, with only two videos released on DVD: a live performance with the Moscow Philharmonic and Pavarotti in Verona in 1990, and a live performance with the Toscanini Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Toscanini's death. In this sense, the release of Verdi's Requiem on CD is significant in filling the gap, including the fact that it is a performance from Maazel's last year, when he cancelled concerts after April 2014. This is the third recording with the Munich Philharmonic, following Shostakovich and Bruckner's Symphony No. 3 with Sol Gabetta. (1/2) Sony Music
