Deluxe Edition of VARESE SARABANDE! After Stephen Norrington directed the first "Blade" film, the 2002 sequel "Blade 2" was directed by master filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. In this film, the main character, played by Wesley Snipes, joins forces with his former vampire foe, the Blood Pack, to fight a new breed of mutant vampires who target humans and vampires alike. In addition to Kris Kristofferson, the film features Ron Perlman, Norman Reedus, and Donnie Yen in a supporting cast. Blade 2 was the second of three collaborations between del Toro and composer Marco Beltrami, following the New York subway monster thriller Mimic and preceding the first Hellboy film. Blade 2 is a tour de force in Beltrami's aggressive action-horror style, full of symphonic thrills, scares, and chases. It also incorporates strong Asian elements, with a full orchestra and choir, plus Japanese drums and shakuhachi bamboo flute, as del Toro was influenced by anime.There is also an electronica aspect, as Beltrami collaborated with DJ Danny Saber on several cues. Originally released in 2002 as a 33-minute program, Blade 2 is now 38 tracks, nearly three times the length of the 97-minute 2CD deluxe edition. Liner notes by Daniel Schweiger include new interviews and comments from the composer. Limited edition.
