Furthermore, the orchestra has performed regularly with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Kent Nagano, John Eliot Gardiner, Roger Norrington, Vladimir Jurowski, Tugan Sokhiev, and Daniele Gatti, earning high acclaim worldwide. This video features a live performance from the Clara International Music Festival in Belgium, an annual event that has garnered attention across Europe as a unique music festival. The conductor is Theodor Kourentzis, a Greek-born prodigy who has been attracting significant attention. Kourentzis was born in Athens in 1972. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Ilya Musin, who has mentored many renowned conductors. Subsequently, in 2004, he founded Musica Aeterna with the aim of performing music using the instruments and practices of the time of its composition. In 2010, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theater. With the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, he has demonstrated his unparalleled talent—as evidenced by his performance of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto (KKC5223) with Melnikov—and is currently one of the conductors attracting the most attention worldwide. Issaris appears as the soloist in Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto. It is a brilliant performance in which Issaris’s distinctive style, Koulentzis’s intense conducting, and the piece’s eccentric character come together as one. Although Britten’s Sinfonietta is performed without a conductor, it vividly showcases a rich variety of musical ideas.
