December 2021, Vienna State Opera: Don Giovanni Kosky's staging and Jordan's conducting bring out the work's structure and nuances Barry Kosky's production of Don Giovanni, staged at the Vienna State Opera in December 2021. At the time, Europe was under lockdown due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, and the opening night was streamed live without an audience. Kyle Kettelsen (Don Giovanni) and Philip Sly (Leporello) gave overwhelming performances, while a talented cast including Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, Kate Lindsey, and Patrizia Nolze vividly brought the story to life. Born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1974, Philippe Jordan is a conductor active in both opera and orchestral fields, serving as Music Director of the Vienna State Opera from 2020 to 2025. In this performance, he weaves music imbued with transparency and poeticism based on a historical approach, and his aesthetic is also evident in the delicate recitatives performed on the fortepiano. His collaboration with director Kosky was also superb, resulting in a performance in which the stage and music blended together comfortably. C MAJOR
