Description:
A collection of recordings by Rosl Schmidt, following MC 1013. Rosl Schmidt (1911-1978) was a Munich-born pianist (Rosl was Rosina's nickname). He won 9th prize in the piano section of the 1938 Eugène Ysaÿe Competition, known as a historic battle (1st prize went to Emile Ghirellis, 7th to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and 10th to Monique de la Bruxolli). Politically clean, Schmidt could have been a great German pianist after the war, but she was more interested in nurturing young talent and taught at the Munich Conservatory from 1948 until the year before her death. As a result, there are very few recordings of her music left. This CD contains two piano sonatas by Schumann from around 1950 and two by Mozart from 1940. The performance is akin to that of a famous teacher in his later years. Tobu Land System
