Kate NV, the solo project of Moscow, Russia-based eclectic experimental pop artist Kate Shilonosova, returns with her long-awaited new release "Room for the Moon" on RVNG Intl. Room for the Moon" is the third album in total, and the first since the release of "для FOR" in 2018. The album is a perfect balance of the pop sensibility of "BINASU" (released on Orange Milk Records) and the ambient, minimal, and new age influences of "для FOR" (released on RVNG). The album opens with "Not Not Not," a song with a tinny synth and saxophone intertwined with colossal synths and light vocals, and continues with the pastoral minimal "Du Na," based on synths, mallets, and marimba.Voted Best New Track by Pitchfork and receiving rave reviews, "Sayonara" is superb synth-pop that seems to run up and down with leaping vocals that have been compared to Kate Bush, edgy guitars, and tapping drums. The lyrics are also a mix of English, Japanese, and Russian. The experimental yet joyful "Ca Commence Par" with French lyrics, "Plans," a saxophone solo created using only samples from Found Sound Nation's "Broken Orchestra" sample pack, and "Piano Concerto No. 1," a melody borrowed from Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto No. 1," are all included. The album is rich in variety, backed by a rich experimental spirit and pop sensibility, including "Tea," which borrows a melody from Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, and "Telefon," an up-tempo pop song that seems to invite you to a party. The band's fantastic sound is a blend of various roots and elements, interpreted in their own unique way, and is reminiscent of and traversing the boundaries of Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Akiko Yano, and Ann Steel, making them a rare entity. This is the birth of a masterpiece that further blossoms the overwhelming talent of this artist.
