The studio musician band behind the Ethiojazz innovations that attracted even Cluambin has miraculously released a phantom album on cassette in 1976 for the first time on record worldwide! The Ibex Band is credited with establishing the innovative sound model during the golden age of Ethiojazz in the 1970s. Formed by Giovanni Rico and Selam Woldemariam, and later renamed the Roja Band, they supported Mulatu Astatuke and recorded the legendary Mahmud Ahmed's "Ere Mela Mela", a milestone work in Ethiopian music. The band was released in 1976. Their 1976 release "Stereo Instrumental Music" is being rerecorded for the first time in the world. Ethiojazz reached its golden age in the mid-1970s, but it is not widely known that the Ibex Band was one of the pioneers who pioneered this music. Giovanni is credited with reinventing traditional melodies as dance music and laying the rhythmic foundation with his massive, looping bass lines, while Selam's innovative guitar work influenced many musicians who came after him." The Ibex Band not only modernized the 6/8 rhythm known as "chicchica," but also provided a model for future musicians, from Giovanni's Fender bass to Salem's choice of Gibson guitar. Later renamed the Roja Band, their influence was not limited to Ethiopia.Kruambing, for example, chose the Roja Band for his compilation "Late Night Tales," in which musicians choose their fave songs to listen to late at night, and he has mentioned Salem in interviews and professed his influence on the band. The upcoming release, Stereo Instrumental Music, was released on cassette-only at the time. It has never been reissued on CD, let alone on vinyl. This 2LP reissue comes in a gatefold jacket with detailed liner notes.
