SACD Hybrid Edition of Sampson's famous English Lieder. Carolyn Sampson is a well-known singer at the Bach Collegium Japan. Her previous album, "Sanity in the Midst of Madness" (BIS SA 2353), was an interesting collection of works about heroines who die madly or take their own lives as martyrs to love. This album is an excellent project in which British composers have written songs to famous poems by Shakespeare, Jordan, Wordsworth, and others. The four composers, Walton, Vaughan Williams, Quilter, and Hugh Watkins (1976-), each wrote a song cycle that shines with a famous English poem. Middleton on piano accompanies Sampson in this performance. King International
