Khruangbin and Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure are releasing a collaborative album, Ali, in honor of Vieux's late father, Ali Farka Toure. Ali Farka Toure was one of the most influential/talented African-born Ali's sound is a fusion of his beloved traditional Malian musical style with elements of blues, and his songs are sung in the local languages of Songai, Tamashek, Fulani, and Bambara. Later, his style gave birth to a groundbreaking new genre now better known as "Desert Blues," for which he won three Grammy Awards. Widely respected, he has also been called the "John Lee Hooker of Africa.Ali," to be released on Dead Oceans, is a tribute to Ali, recreating some of his most impressive works and examining them in a different sound while maintaining the majesty of the originals. The album will be released the day after Republic Day, a Malian holiday commemorating the independence of the Republic of Mali from the Federation of Mali on September 22, 1960. The songs played on the album are Vieux's favorites and represent different parts of Ali's career, from well-known songs like "Diarabi," which features Ry Cooder, to obscure songs like "Alakarra. "Vieux followed in his father's footsteps and chose Khruangbin as his It's no surprise that he chose to do so. The trio's amorphous, psychedelic funk has earned them acclaim around the world, revealing untapped international cultures and songs. 'I want this album to be about the love that Ali brought to this world. About the love I have for him and the love Khruangbin has for his music. It's about putting love into something old and making it new again," Vieux says of the collaboration.We made this album as a tribute to Ali's life and work." We hope it will inspire more people to discover Ali's musical legacy," adds Khruangbin.
