Peter Donohoe is a renowned British pianist who has been invited by Simon Rattle as a soloist for his inaugural concert as Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, and has performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions. Donohoe, who had a unique career as a percussionist in his youth, studied piano under Yvonne Loriot and Olivier Messiaen in Paris, and won a prize at the Leeds International Competition in 1981 and the highest prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982.Following the previous release "24 Preludes and Fugues, Op.87" (SIGCD 396), this second volume in the Shostakovich series features four works: Piano Concertos No. 1 & 2 and Piano Sonatas No. 1 & 2!
