Description:

THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS: THE CARLY SIMON AND JAC HOLZMAN STORY features songs from her first three Grammy Award-winning albums, CARLY SIMON and ANTICIPATION (1971), and NO SECRETS (1972). In addition to a selection of songs from her first three albums, the album also includes 20 songs in total, including a cover of John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery," an outtake, and the previously unreleased demo "Alone.Among the 20 songs on the album are such classics as "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be," a Top 10 hit in 1970; "Anticipation," a #13 hit in 1971; and "You're So Vain," a gold-certified hit that spent three consecutive weeks atop the U.S. singles chart in 1973 (and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004). Holtzman's collection also includes her signature songs such as "The Love's Still Growing," "Our First Day," "Embracing," and "You're So Vain" (inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004), which was a gold-certified hit in 1973 after topping the U.S. singles chart for three consecutive weeks. Together" and "Embrace Me, You Child" to highlight the story of their friendship. The collection also includes a previously unreleased demo version of "Alone".This song would appear as an official recording on her debut album, CARLY SIMON, released in 1971, but this early recording was from a five-song demo she made in 1970 with a band led by David Bromberg. Holtzman had seen Carly performing in Greenwich Village in the late 1960s and invited her to lunch with him after receiving the demo. This was the beginning of the story of their enduring friendship. The collection includes liner notes by music historian Ted Olson and a booklet with rare photos from the era. The liner notes detail Carly Simon and Jack Holtzman's brief but successful partnership (three albums in three years), and also include quotes from the two in a recent interview, providing a fresh insight into that period. It is a fresh insight into what was going on at the time. (2/2)
