Description:
A psychedelic collection of Beatles covers where a UK dub master meets traditional Chinese music! JAHWOBBLE, a London-born heavyweight of the UK dub and post-punk scenes. After his time with PUBLICIMAGELTD, he continues to pursue his own unique deep bass sound through TIANQIYI, a project featuring his sons, JOHNT and CHARLIE. Mastering traditional Chinese instruments such as the yangqin and erhu, they fuse the mystical sounds of the East with Western beats, continuing to pioneer new sonic landscapes while carrying on their unique musical legacy. This 2026 release deconstructs and reconstructs the songs from The Beatles’ psychedelic era using heavy dub bass and the sounds of traditional Chinese music. Imbued with personal sentiment for Liverpool—the city where the members’ mothers grew up and their grandfather founded the China Youth Orchestra—this work completely reinterprets the original songs’ orientation toward the East from the perspective of a family living between two cultures, elevating them into an unprecedented, immersive soundscape. “TOMORROWNEVERKNOWS,” where deep reverberations erode the space; “STRAWBERRYFIELDSFOREVER,” where the erhu melody paints a mesmerizing scene; and “WITHINYOUWITHOUTYOU,” which pushes Eastern mysticism to its absolute limit—these are just a few of the 10 tracks whose hallucinatory sounds reverberate through the listener’s eardrums. The abyss of psychedelia inherent in the original songs is delved into even deeper by bass lines that crawl along the ground and an array of exotic percussion, luring the listener into unknown dimensions. The album comes with an 8-page booklet featuring liner notes written by JAHWOBBLE himself. Transcending the boundaries of a mere cover album, it also holds archival value as a document where family history and musical exploration intersect. This album represents a masterful fusion of a landmark of UK rock and Eastern traditions, filtered through the powerful lens of dub. It is a masterpiece that effortlessly transcends genre and national boundaries, presenting new possibilities for psychedelic music. (From the manufacturer’s information)
