Description:
A collection of Weber's works by Spanish clarinetist and conductor Luna. Weber, a German Romantic composer, was a close friend of Heinrich Behrmann, a clarinet virtuoso who is said to have inspired Mendelssohn, and composed a total of six works for him, including two concertos. Concerto No. 1 is a unique work, with a dramatic operatic introduction in the first movement, a gentle second movement, and a rondo in the last movement that shows the influence of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, with whom he was related (Mozart's wife, Constanze, was a cousin of Weber's). The second movement is a march-like first movement, a nostalgic second movement, and a polonaise-like final movement, all of which are colored with gorgeous musical ideas. The only two symphonies included here were both written when Luna was 20 years old. Luna is a virtuoso soloist and chamber musician who has performed and recorded with the Tokyo Quartet and the Brodsky String Quartet. In this album, he also shows off his skills as a conductor.
