Of all the composers active during the Baroque period, Telemann is perhaps the most prolific in terms of the number of works he produced. Not all of his works have been organized, and on top of that, it is speculated that numerous unpublished works exist, mainly in the Hamburg library, so the full picture is still unknown. The "Mark Passion" of 1759 was previously attributed to Johann Heinrich Rohre, the music director of the city of Magdeburg, but was recently identified as Telemann's work based on documents held in the Royal Library of Brussels. This version, to which a text by an anonymous theologian, "Poetic Considerations," has been added, has been arranged as a complete narrative, thanks to Telemann's fine-tuning of the text. The recitative, which is more eloquent than the aria, is also worth hearing.
