The album contains a number of petit motets (solo motets) written for the alto register by the Belgian-born Dumont, an important composer linking the first half of the 17th century and the second half of the 17th century in France. This album recorded with Gérard Reine, who was also extremely charismatic and popular, became a long seller and showed great presence at a time when French classical music was beginning to attract attention. The addition of the virtuoso Fokloul on the organ is a real luxury nowadays. This French music album is full of the charm of the Ricercar Consort's breakthrough period. (C)RS
