Description:

Weber's little-known opera revived in the 21st century! In 12th century Germany, Count Adrard of Nevers is separated from his beloved wife, Euryante, by battle. Count Adrard is separated from his beloved wife, Euglantine, who has feelings for Adrard, and falls for the schemes of Count Forrest Lisiarto, who plans to make Euliante his own, and Euglantine, who serves as Euliante's lady-in-waiting, leading Adrard to believe that his wife has committed treachery... 《"Euliante"《Premiered in Vienna in 1823》is the first opera by Weber to be performed in the United States. Although "Euglante" was Weber's most ambitious work, it was not performed repeatedly due to its length of over three hours and the inadequacy of the script. However, the music, including the overture, is of such high quality that various revised versions have been performed, and the popularity of the opera has never ceased. In this video, Jacqueline Wagner's limpid singing of Eugliante and her rival Kronthaler's uncanny acting singing as Eglantine shine under the sturdy baton of Konstantin Trincks, who leads the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. The male voices surrounding the girls are seamless, especially the physical performance of Foster-Williams as Lisi Alto, who gives an inspired performance to the story. Christoph Roy's direction, with a few small cuts to the original coupled with Johannes Reicker's simple and effective stage design, keeps the story organized and makes it a compelling drama.
