Description:
Momen, a new generation pianist born in London in 1992, makes his solo debut album for SOMM RESORDINGS. Momen is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music in London, where he studied with Richard Goode and András Schiff. The album title, "VARIATIONS," is an inquiry into what changes and what remains the same, and Momen has chosen a wide variety of music, from works by Schumann and his wife, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and other Romantic composers to works that Momen himself commissioned from two contemporary composers, and which will be completed in 2019. It is diverse, ranging from works that were completed. One of the composers is Nico Murie, who wrote one of the pieces, the opera "Marnie," which premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in 2018 and was the subject of a live viewing in Japan. The other composer, Iyer, is a jazz pianist active in New York City. This is an interesting fusion of contemporary and Romantic works. Naxos Japan
