Description:

The debut album "Goldberg Variations" was released in January 1956 and made the young Glenn Gould's name known worldwide. His last album, "Goldberg Variations," was released in September 1982, about a month before Gould's death, and was also the last album released before his death. This work frames Gould's life like a closing circle, and is indispensable in considering his unique music. When we think of Gould, we think of Goldberg, and vice versa. The fifth in a special series of six analog reissues of four different performances of this important work is a pseudo-stereo version of the 1955 disc, released in 1968. The producer at the time, Andrue Kazdin, remastered the original monaural sound source into pseudo-stereo with a left-right spread, responding to the needs of the stereo era, and it was heard in Japan from 1969 until 1986, when the mono version was released on CD. The sound production has a different appeal from the pure monaural version. (C)RS
