Description:

Tower Records x Sony Classical's 5th release of the ultimate SA-CD hybrid collection. This is a compilation of all Mahler recordings made by Sell with the Cleveland Orchestra. No. 4 is the Mahler symphony that Sell conducted the most during his lifetime. It has been considered the masterpiece of this piece since the analog era, and its crystal-clear sound sears the eeriness of the work. The soloist in the last movement is the famous American lyric soprano Judith Raskin. No. 6 was released as a memorial disc after Sell's death, and is also a valuable record in that it was recorded live at the first concert featuring this symphony with the Cleveland Orchestra. The second movement is a scherzo and the third movement an adagio, and although the presentation of the first movement is not repeated, the slow tempo is a masterful performance that magnificently portrays the "heaviness" of the work. The recording was made on October 1 & 2, 1965, October 1967, November 1, 1958, etc. / Location: Severance Hall, Cleveland, Ohio
