Description:
ALTUS has licensed and remastered the live CD recordings of Radmil Eliška & the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra originally released by Pastier Label, presenting them for the first time on SACD. This single SACD contains Dvořák's Symphonies Nos. 5 through 9 (total running time: 205 minutes). Mastered by Mr. Saito of Altus. Tower Records exclusive, strictly limited quantity, first-ever SACD release! Radmil Eliška (1931-2019) earned high acclaim for his numerous performances with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. The series of recordings released by Pastiel Label primarily featured works from his homeland, such as Dvořák, Smetana, and Janáček, alongside Russian music. Eliška's conducting, characterized by its fresh expressiveness and high musicality, left a significant legacy for Japanese fans. Eliška first collaborated with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in 2006, performing "Scheherazade" and other works, deepening their relationship. He became Principal Guest Conductor in 2008 and was honored with the title of Conductor Laureate in 2015.Beyond the Pastiel label, the release of Brahms: Complete Symphonies and other works on the ALTUS label also generated significant buzz. His contributions to Japan's music scene are substantial, notably through his proactive promotion of Czech repertoire—works that, including those by composers other than Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, do not necessarily receive frequent performance opportunities in Japan. This time, nine titles (excluding the Pastiel Label CD "The Farewell Concert in Sapporo" released in 2017), totaling ten CDs' worth of recordings, have been remastered by Keisuke Saito, head of the ALTUS Label, and reissued as three SACD single-layer discs. The first release features "Dvořák: Symphonies Nos. 5-9," recorded live at Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara between 2008 and 2013 (the second and third releases are scheduled for later dates). Eliška's first visit to Japan was in 2004. His later years of activity in Japan captured the hearts of many music fans. His 2009 performance of "My Country" with the NHK Symphony Orchestra was voted number one in that year's "NHK Symphony Concerts That Stayed in Our Hearts: Concert Edition."Especially highly regarded were the Czech works, and by including pieces rarely performed in Japan and Dvořák's middle-period symphonies (Nos. 5 and 6), the program also contributed to raising Japanese audiences' awareness of each work. With his sincere approach to the music and natural musicality, Erlichka can truly be called a legitimate interpreter of Czech music. (1/2)
