Sodom, a German thrash metal band that has been called the "Three German Thrash Birds" along with Creator and Destruction, has released a special album to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the band's formation last year. The album contains 17 songs carefully selected from the band's past releases and re-recorded versions by the current lineup of Tom Angelripper (Vo,B), Frank Blackfire (Gt), York Segatz (Gt), and Toni Merkel (Ds). Regarding this work, Tom Angelripper says, "Our goal was to re-record one song from each of our previous albums. We didn't want to do all the obvious songs, we wanted to do the rare ones, the ones we've never or very rarely played live. We covered the songs exactly as they were, in the exact same key and with the original lyrics. We are better musicians now than we were then, so the new version sounds tighter and more up-to-date, but we intentionally didn't change the arrangement of the song," he says.The Japanese version of the album includes a special bonus track, a new song "1982," which is included on the bonus CD of the limited box set.
