Description:
Marienberg Fortress, the archbishop’s residence, sits atop a hill in Würzburg, southern Germany. Within the fortress stands the Church of the Virgin Mary, a structure dating back to the early 8th century. This CD features a Christmas concert held at that church in December 2012 (the video is already available as ACC20227DVD). The program features hymns such as “Glory to God in the Highest,” as well as Christmas classics like “The Nutcracker,” “A Sled Ride in St. Petersburg,” and “Silent Night,” offering listeners a taste of a traditional European Christmas. Founded in 1951, the Wernigerode Youth Choir is composed of select members aged 15 to 18 from the Saxony-Anhalt State Music High School in Germany. Their pure and beautiful sound captivates choral music fans not only in Germany but around the world. Also appearing as a soloist is soprano Ruth Ziesack. Her crystal-clear, pure voice further enhances the solemn Christmas atmosphere.
