A modern masterpiece of *The Ring*, capturing the essence of Wagner, performed by a rising star conductor. 2-LP set German Gramophone is releasing “The Ring—An Orchestral Adventure,” an album featuring an arranged compilation of iconic scenes from Wagner’s opera cycle *The Ring of the Nibelung*, conducted by Tarmo Pertkoski, a young Finnish conductor born in 2000. The album was arranged by Dutch composer Henk de Vrijhel, born in 1953. Following the chronological order of *Das Rheingold*, *Die Walküre*, *Siegfried*, and *Götterdämmerung*, this unprecedented work masterfully condenses the moving and thrilling music of each opera into an orchestral arrangement. This album features a live recording of Pertkoski’s performance with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in Hong Kong in June 2025. The German newspaper *Tagesspiegel* described as “a talent of the century” and “Finland’s phenomenal conductor,” and who won the “Opus Classics” Young Talent Award in 2023, has been announced as the incoming Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, effective the 2026–27 season. Tarmo Pertkoski began studying piano at the age of 8, and his encounter with Daniel Barenboim’s recording of Wagner’s *The Ring of the Nibelung* at the age of 11 inspired him to pursue a career as a conductor. At the age of 14, he began studying conducting under the legendary Finnish educator Jorma Panula, and four years later, he enrolled at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He continued his studies in conducting and piano, and later joined Sakari Oramo’s conducting class.
